About NordGun

NordGun is a specialised classifieds platform operating in Lithuania for firearms, optics, ammunition, clothing and hunting and sport-shooting accessories.

Both private individuals and licensed traders (dealers) can register on the platform. The core principles are transparency, safety and strict compliance with Lithuanian law. All transactions must comply with the applicable legislation, and sellers are responsible for their item matching the permit they hold.

NordGun operates as a listing platform — we do not act as an intermediary in the money transaction between private individuals, but we provide tools (chats, offers, reviews, dispute resolution) that help both sides reach an agreement safely.

Legal information

Trade in firearms, ammunition and regulated accessories is strictly regulated by law in Lithuania.

Core principles

  • Firearms, ammunition and regulated accessories may only be acquired by persons holding a valid permit.
  • The transaction must be registered with the Police Department within the period set by law (usually 5 business days).
  • The seller is responsible for ensuring the listed item matches the licence and category they hold.
  • Minors (under 18) are prohibited from both buying and selling regulated items.

Documents needed during the transaction

  • ID document — an identity card or passport.
  • Firearm permit — the buyer’s, if the item is regulated.
  • Firearm sale-and-purchase contract — usually signed in two copies.
  • Bank transfer receipt — when the transaction is by transfer.

Obligation to register

After the transaction the seller must notify the Police Department within the period set by law. The buyer — the police station of their place of residence. Do not skip this step — without it the firearm is considered unregistered.

Permits and licences

A brief overview of which documents are relevant for hunters, athletes and traders.

For private individuals

  • Hunter’s licence — allows you to own hunting shotguns.
  • Civilian firearms permit — for self-defence or sport purposes.
  • Sport-shooting permit — for keeping sport firearms.
  • Firearm transport permit — when it is carried outside the transaction location.

For companies

  • Firearms trade licence — mandatory for all dealers.
  • Safe storage certificate — certified premises.
  • Ammunition trade permit — a separate category.
  • Import / export permit — for foreign transactions.

Where to apply

All permits and licences in Lithuania are administered by the Licensing Division of the Police Department. You can find more information on the official site policija.lrv.lt.

Community rules

NordGun users undertake to follow these principles. Violations may result in account restrictions.

Prohibited

  • Listing items that require a permit if you do not hold one.
  • Using someone else’s photos or descriptions.
  • Impersonating another user, company or institution.
  • Creating several accounts for one person (one account — one email).
  • Posting insulting, discriminatory or threatening content.
  • Advertising competing platforms in chats or listings.
  • Using automated tools (bots) to submit listings or offers.

Required

  • Describe the item honestly — precise condition, defects, origin.
  • Respond to buyers’ messages within a reasonable time (ideally within 48 h).
  • Complete transactions that were agreed — an accepted offer is binding.
  • Update the listing status once the item is sold.
  • Report noticed violations to the administration.

Verified account

An account with a green check mark shows that the person’s identity and, where relevant, the firearm permit have been verified. These accounts get priority in search and appear in the “Verified sellers only” filter.

Safe transaction guidelines

These principles apply to both buyer and seller.

Signs for spotting scammers

  • Pressure to move the chat off the platform (WhatsApp, Telegram).
  • A request to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency or Western Union.
  • The listing has no photos or the photos are taken from online shops.
  • A newly created account with no reviews and an expensive item.
  • The seller refuses to meet in person and demands a deposit.
  • A suspiciously cheap price — more than 30% below the market average.

Meeting a stranger

For a meeting to hand over a firearm, choose public places — car parks near shooting clubs, police stations or gun shops. Don’t meet alone, and always carry your ID.

Privacy and personal data

NordGun respects your privacy and complies with the Lithuanian Law on Legal Protection of Personal Data and the EU GDPR.

  • Your phone number is never shown publicly. A buyer only sees it after clicking “Show phone number” with confirmation.
  • Your email address is visible only to the administration — buyers communicate through the internal chat.
  • Location data (city) is shown only to the extent you specified in your profile yourself.
  • Verification documents (personal code, permits) are stored encrypted and accessible only to the administration.
  • You can request all data collected about you, or have it deleted, at any time.

You can find the detailed privacy policy text on the /privacy page. For questions about personal data write to privacy@nordgun.com.

Foreign transactions

International firearms trade and transport are additionally regulated.

  • Exporting / importing a firearm requires a separate Police Department permit.
  • Within the EU the European Firearms Pass (EFP) applies, which makes transport between countries easier for athletes and hunters.
  • For all foreign transactions we recommend consulting a licensed dealer in advance.
  • On the NordGun platform you may only list items that are or will be in Lithuania, with a clear delivery plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell a firearm without a permit?
No. Both the seller and the buyer must hold a valid permit for that item. Attempting to sell without a permit is a criminal offence.
Within how many days must the police be notified of a transaction?
Under the applicable legislation — usually within 5 business days of the handover. Confirm the exact term on the Police Department’s site, as it may change.
Is NordGun responsible if a seller defrauded me?
The platform provides tools (chats, dispute resolution, account blocking), but the parties to the transaction are responsible for their own decisions. We always recommend meeting in person and paying only once you have the item in hand.
Who is responsible for taxes on a sale?
Private individuals selling personal property usually owe no tax. Dealers must account for VAT and profit tax. It is worth checking your specific case with an accountant.
Where do I list if the item is only for a hunting club or athletes?
Such listings can be placed in the “Hunting” or “Sport firearms” categories. In the description clearly state that the buyer must hold the corresponding permit.
